LDAP search base?

Sometime ago, the new LDAP stuff added a search base. Now when I start xemacs and use ldap for the first time, it asks me if I want to configure a search base. If I answer no, everything is fine. If I answer yes, I get dropped into customize appropriately. However, for someone who knows nothing about ldap, I haven't the faintest clue on what to put into the search base, except that it's a string. There's no help in the customize buffer, so for clueless people like myself, I'm stuck. Yes, I suppose I could go read the appropriate LDAP docs, but there should be some way of disabling the check for search base. Any hints? Ray
