I've not seen any problem reports with "vanilla" builds, and on the other hand the kinds of problems that are likely to arise that generate such symptoms are workstation configuration details that your OS vendor should take care of. (That is not to say that XEmacs couldn't have such a bug or handle the error better, but the OS vendor is in a better position than we are to distinguish between configuration issues and XEmacs bugs.) For this problem, and for the closely related problem of XIM initialization failing because of not finding a FontSet (which is a bug that is present in XEmacs 21.5.27 and later), you can eliminate all possibility of the error occurring by configuring XEmacs with your usual flags, except for `--with-xim=no', then rebuilding (this is a C-level issue, it's not possible to work around with Lisp). mike> i'm not sure what xintl xim xcreateic are, but bfrom mike> googling, it seems they are related to Japanese features, mike> which I do not have need of in the near future. The preferred solution for most users of a *single* European language is to reconfigure the keyboard, but if you need multiple foreign languages, an input method (the IM in XIM) is useful.
