I suspect make distclean is not good enough; you probably need to sand
the bits off the metal and check out again.
I thought I had done that a few times already, but I suppose that wasn't
actually the case (or maybe I tried building with an unpatched 21.5.28,
dunno). No success yet, I ran into the next (unrelated) issue, will send a
separate post about that.
