MH-E, too, uses a loaddefs file to "hide" internal interfaces. It's
something I'll need to deal with for MH-E 8.3, but I haven't gotten to
it yet. My tentative plan is this:
- include upstream's Makefile in the XEmacs package tree (probably call
it Makefile.upstream)
- change xemacs-packages/mh-e/Makefile to include a rule for
lisp/mh-loaddefs.el. The rule will do "make -f Makefile.upstream
loaddefs".
- tweak makefiles as needed
