You might be better of trying to turn of that switch as a temporary
solution until you find out why it doesn't work as expected. ;-)
s/temporary/permanent/, IMHO. Having a generic utility like ls(1)
spit out Emacs-specific information makes me feel sick to my stomach.
Worse may be better, but this kind of worse is just bad
