How do you make shared libraries on Mac OS X ?

Hello, I can't compile XEmacs 21.4 on Mac OS X with external widget support because the syntax for making shared libraries is not the same as on other platforms. I don't know about XEmacs 21.5; I can't use it so I don't have it handy. With the very few minutes that I had this weekend, I spotted that the culprit is the -shared option which doesn't exist on Darwin gcc; it has a -dynamiclib option or something, but just using that instead wasn't enough to fix the problem. I don't have time to look into it further. Could someone already knowledgeable in Mac OS X system have a look at it please ?
