I don't know why Mike insists on allowing localization, especially
since he's made no attempt to parse Devanagari, Swahili, and Japanese
(the one that bites me ;).
Now that's a bit extreme. I did attempt. I failed. The main problem
is the output from ls via ftp, which we have no control over. (I
know, I know, but these are the assumptions wired into Dired and EFS
from the start. They're very hard to get rid of.)
