Yeah, that's the secret.
It compiled with
./configure '--pdump' '--with-dialogs=athena'
'--with-widgets=athena' '--with-athena=3d'
This may be because I seem to have both Lesstif and OpenMotif
installed...

i'm getting ready to take that plunge myself this weekend... so i look
forward to seeing what the fix is. :-)
just as a wild guess... have you tried building without motif? It
looks like it craps out right after a Xm call.
