If you look at the debug output and the back traces, you can see that
XEmacs is trying to use a Lucida core font.
I'm pretty sure that what is happening is that the Xft handling code
is bailing out on that, leaving the font uninitialized, but
nonetheless managing to return a font object. This passes something
bogus to redisplay, which obliges with a crash. I think the most
straightforward way to a fix is to simply make XEmacs do Xft fonts
correctly.
By the way Aidan, Hrvoje's long since gotten used to having his name
bowdlerized by us Americans, but IIRC it's spelled "Nikšić". I'm sure
you'll appreciate being given a_ good_ reason to annoy all of us with
random charsets in your mail.
