in fact, it was never defined, it's just that there were formerly no uses of
ptrdiff_t in regex.c.
While I don't have any kind of Solaris box within my reach, I do
remember from my time at Sun that they were pretty anal about ANSI
compliance. The ptrdiff_t definition should be in <stddef.h> on a
compliant system.
