Do you compile with -fno-strict-aliasing? I have to do that in our
Fedora build, else we get some subtly wrong behavior here and there in
the code. This strikes me as the sort of weirdness we would
experience before adding that flag.
No, we don't use -fno-strict-aliasing. In fact we don't use any CFLAGS
changes in our ebuild. Our users, that may be a different matter ;-)

Ah, nice, I think we should apply that patch. Do any other developers
have an opinion?
I seem to remember it's a minor issue, but still something that should
be fixed from a security standpoint, given that it's easy to fix this.
