I performed this recipe in:
"XEmacs 21.1 (patch 4) \"Arches\" [Lucid] (sparc-sun-solaris2.7) of Tue Jul
27 1999 on rhea"
(with the patch you originally sent me) and it did not go KABOOM.
I assumed the "empty window" in the recipe was the 2nd one.
