I'm not all that sure that I like it.
I know I like it better than the default one, and I like the fact that
the text is to the right of the gauge, thus reducing screen height it
occupies.
Would it be possible to modify the code so that it uses the echo area
for gutter display? Would you accept patches in that direction, along
with getting rid of the "progress history" concept?
