I administer sendmail for my domain, so I can certainly block it there. But
the point is, if it's going to be blocked at the MTA level, it might as well
be blocked _once_ at the origin of the mailing list (gwyn.tux.org) rather
than at the hundreds of MTAs that receive the list.

Unfortunately, filtering on a PC is non-trivial, and generally costs
