I'm negotiating this patch with Martin, but perhaps DEC Alpha testers
can vote on it. Currently, XEmacs on DEC Alpha uses the system malloc
by default. This patch changes the default to the old GNU malloc
distributed with XEmacs.
I think we should always be using system defaults like this, especially
with shared libraries -- malloc coming from a shared libc incurs no
space penalty and should always be paged in. Since 21.0 works as is[1],
I am leery about changing a major default like this at the last minute.
As for 21.2, I don't want to see it released until dumping is gone.
Comments (especially from people running DEC OSF)?
