package-name-to-directory (was Problem making bindist of ruby-modes)

Yup. So many "quick hacks that turned out broken" to fix, so little time.
Proposal:
I was thinking it would be better to generate some or all of
package-name-to-directory on the fly, using the AUTOLOAD_PATH settings
in the makefiles.
Please make it "none" or "all", or somebody will have to go through
this again in the future. I think AUTOLOAD_PATH is a good choice,
since it should be smack in the middle of the Lisp code anyway.
Does anyone see a problem with doing this?
I don't see any technical problem. But before actually putting any
work into it, make sure that Norbert Koch is on-board---he has an
absolute veto over anything that he thinks will make his life harder,
as far as I'm concerned. :-)
