Now when I start xemacs --debug-init, I get this error:

I assume you get the same result with plain "xemacs". Do you get the
same error with "xemacs -vanilla"? If not, the problem is somewhere
in init.el (or possibly custom.el). I would check for references to a
variable `re' in your init files. If you do get it with "xemacs
-vanilla", I'll have to leave it to people familiar with the Fedora
packages.
`re' is such a short symbol that it could mean anything. However,
there is a package named "re" which we don't distribute. Possibly
it's part of the "aplus" package that Jerry suggested you uninstall or
some other.
