Not offhand, I'll try to dig it up.
IIRC, the main idea was to have an enhanced auto-autoloads in
.../xemacs-packages that would serve to fix up load-path as well, thus
avoiding all the stat'ing down into the tree.
We discussed caching the load-path way back; I really dislike that idea,
and see even more bug reports coming because that cache is out of
synch. Is there really still that much of a problem?
