I'm going to drop gnus-bugs since this is not a Gnus bug anymore. If
that's the wrong thing to do, feel free to repost -- but I think
they'd mostly prefer to pick up the thread again when we fix it ;-)

No, I checked that before sending my post. call-process does its
thing by forking and execvp(3), not through a system(3) call.
