mercurial and git (was: [AC21.5] Configure uses sed -rn ... not any more!)

Well I like mercurial due to what I feel as its simplicity but I guess git would have worked pretty well. I suspect over time more people will be exposed to git so that it would be a more natural choice. However: I've seen some bridge stuff that lets you use git on a mercurial repo as if it was a git repo. The other way around exists to I believe. I have never tested any of this but... Could that ease the pain or is it more to it than just the commands?
