Next problem has to do with updating my packages.
I think that just means the last time the tarball was made. Once
you've got xemacs running, you can get updated packages by using the
menu Tools->Packages->Set Download site to select a close site,
This gives me a choice of official releases, pre-releases, and site releases.
I don't know what site releases are, but there aren't any choices there
anyhow.
Since this is a beta, I figure it's a pre-release, so I selected US (the first
choice) under that.
Next I ran Tools => Packages => Update packages index
and this is all I get out of it:
ftp> ls "-Al" /var/folders/zm/b53wrtcx0dn85x8h7f7gsyrm0000gn/T//efscZIQT0
229 Entering Extended Passive Mode (|||64823|)
ftp: Can't connect to `207.172.156.133': Connection refused
Process *ftp anonymous(a)ftp.xemacs.org* killed
The same is true if I set the site for official releases, trying to connect
to the same IP, except the second time it took much longer.
then Tools->Packages-> List and Install to list all the
available
packages. You can select the packages you want to update.
I guess I can't do Tools => Packages => List without an index,
right? In any case at this point when I try to do that, it just
times out on me again. Likewise when I do Tools => Packages =>
Update Installed Packages.
When I just try to ftp to that IP from a command line, it does let
me connect for a few momens. But then no matter what I do, it just times
out and kills the connection.
I can't update packages. Any clues what to do next? Maybe there's
a better site choice? But I'd expect
ftp.xemacs.org to work best.
