I have libpng 1.2.22, and I cannot reproduce this crash.
So a guess would be that what I am seeing is a bug introduced in libpng
between version 1.2.22 and 1.2.27?
My XEmacs reads the PNG file with no trouble.
Could it be some subtle endian-related thing, or is that of no
consequence here? (My machine is a Mac Mini with a Powerpc processor).
Your problem *could* be caused by one of the following:
Wasn't that fixed in 1.2.22?
Wasn't those fixed in 1.2.21?
In any case, since I cannot reproduce on the same PNG file, I am all
but certain that your problem is caused by a buggy libpng, rather than
a buggy XEmacs.
Yeah, that sounds most likely.
Is there any possibility of you getting hold of a newer libpng to
see
if that fixes the problem?
As far as I can see, I have the newest libpng installed, from
libpng.org's frontpage:
"The current public release, libpng 1.2.28, is identical to its
two-day-old predecessor except for the configure-related build
scripts,"
The "two-day-old predecessor" is 1.2.27, which is the version I have
installed as far as the Debian package system tells me.
Best regards,
Adam
P.S. I assume you both read the mailinglist (and I have subscribed), so
I haven't Cc'ed you on this reply - let me know if you want me to
resume Cc'ing.
