are, that's a bug in the implementation of the widgets or the
particular platform. Custom has some ugly bitmaps that it uses when
native buttons and toggles aren't available.
Apparently not for all buttons
(see the attached image).

P.S. The platform is Linux, of course. XEmacs is from CVS (a few days
old
now) and configured w/o any options.
