I don't think you can build with xim on Sparc machines - at least that
was my experience back when I was using Sparcs, but it's been about 2
years now.

That was it! The Xaw configuration with --with-xim=no builds and runs.
At least locally, I haven't had a chance to try it remotely yet.
But, just to correct one point. For the Motif configuration,
--with-xim=motif does build and run. However, I don't know if it
actually works. On Solaris, we have the ability to enter non-English
characters via the Compose key, but I suspect that is not the same thing.
