pcl-cvs hangs

When I try to do a CVS update using pcl-cvs, xemacs hangs and causes an extreme slow-down of all other applications. This problem seems to be specific to pcl-cvs. Everything seems to work fine if I run cvs commands from my bash shell. I'm using CVS version 1.11.
