I think you've zeroed in on the problem since the equivalent code
snippet here looks like:
;;; WMP - we need to honor font-menu-this-frame-only-p here!
; (set-face-font 'default new-default-face-font
; (and font-menu-this-frame-only-p (selected-frame)))
However, this is what comes in the Poitou tar.gz that I downloaded...
(ie, not a package).
