Basically he signed off from all maintainerships he didn't explicitly sign up for, because Python, Zope, and Mailman are keeping him really busy. I would say direct mail to Barry is the way to go. If he doesn't take on the responsibility himself, he'll surely be helpful in finding a maintainer.
