I strongly recommend that you get the XEmacs debug package from Red Hat (sorry, I don't have an URL offhand), which provides the debugging symbols. That makes it possible to give annotated backtraces without too much effort on your part. The assert in `execute_rare_opcode' is almost certainly the default in a switch, which means that the bytecode being executed is somehow corrupt. We've also had some issues with 64-bit platforms in the byte code. However, these are getting weeded out mostly in the development code base rather than in "stable."
