I've seen this problem as well. SGI install an old version of

in /usr/include and /usr/lib{n32,64,}. What I did was to point to
versions I had installed from from SGI's freeware base (and other
libraries I installed myself in /usr/include.)
The problem went away after I installed the libpng package from SGI
freeware. Thanks.
