I remember seeing this same hang. X11R4 is not part of the problem here.
Was AIX 4.3.3, and *categorically* was X11R6.1 (or so says xdpyinfo -
IBM claims it R6.3). I unfortunately can't remember what made it go away,
or if I've just stopped seeing it recently.
