Hi all, but especially the silent unanimity of students:
The next step for this year is to decide whether to seek support from
one of the large umbrella organizations: FSF (not going to happen, I
suspect), Apache, etc.[1]
But we have seen no interest from students, and I cannot afford to
spend a lot of time on negotiating it if there are no candidates for
GSoC support anyway (not to mention that if I'm successful in
acquiring a slot and we don't have serious candidates on offer, the
sponsoring org will be *pissed off*, at least I would be!)
I don't need a project proposal, just interest in doing a project. We
can work out exactly what the project will be in the next couple weeks
(by April 22, to be exact). Post to this list, or write me directly.
If you have connection to students who *might* *just* *possibly* be
interested, please instigate. :-)
Thanks!
Steve
Footnotes:
[1] There's one project that occurs to me the might tickle the fancy
of the Python Software Foundation where I have connections at the org
admin level: merge Pymacs into XEmacs. But I think we should discuss
that one at leisure before implementing! An improved python-mode
might fly there, too, but the one GNU has isn't bad, so probably not.
