XP does allow files with a beginning dot. It can be tricky to create
them though. As it seems save-options also require that the .xemacs
folder already is available.
So the trick is to create the folder "~/.xemacs" first. One way to do
that is to do it with XEmacs itself together with dired (if you have
dired package installed). Open your home folder with dired and use
dired-create-directory, bound to the char '+', in dired-mode, to
create the .xemacs-folder.
