I'm a firm believer in XEmacs packages using XEmacs features.
Here's
another package that needed very little tweaking to get rid of its
dependence on fsf-compat.
This is native GNU Emacs code--the upstream version is that in their
CVS--and using overlays reduces the burden on our maintainer. However, in
this case, I’m the maintainer of the package, and I judge this burden to not
be an issue.
I’ll commit this patch in the next couple of days, maybe even this evening.
