I understand the rationale behind deleting or moving most of
these files. However, I personally use gnu.xpm and sink.xbm.
Are they quaint? Probably. Unused? No. Why did you delete them?
I thought they were a holdover from GNU Emacs. I'll put them back if you
want, but it's not obvious they need to be in the distribution as XEmacs
itself doesn't use them.
I also think that SERVICE is useful information to have
around, enough so that I put in the effort to update it just
a few months ago. What is the rationale for tossing it out?
Well, it's the "GNU Service Directory". This is basically a bunch of
classified ads of people who will do work on GNU software, if paid. It's
unlikely very many, if any, work on XEmacs, and in any case, why do we need
such info in the distribution? It should go on the web site, if anywhere at
all.
