I've lost track over the years of who wants what behavior. What I do
know is that almost any change (specifically this one) in this area
will break somebody's setup.
I’m sorry, but that’s not a reasonable ground for a veto. It’s possible to
say ‘almost any change will break somebody’s setup’ in objection to any
patch that changes functionality. It’s the details of what will break and
the trade-off of that breakage versus the improvement that the patch will
hopefully bring, that make such an objection worth considering or not.
Anyway, the bug report actually seems related to the switch to
autoconf 2.6 rather than the search algorithm per se. I have a fix
for it that needs polishing; I'll try to do that tomorrow.
Well, okay. I’ll test that change.
