Too bad. I'm with Mike on this one; none of the decent MUAs can
possibly be folded into core; we just don't have the manpower to
support them. s-u-a should just be made to get really cranky if
there's any non-ASCII in the message anywhere.
Your argument that the default sucks is correct that far, but we
already know from experience that the suggested cure is worse than the
disease.
What might be reasonable is a small facility to search for a package
that provides a virtual feature, in this case 'mua. Then the default
mailer would be '(lambda () (interactive) (find-virtual-feature 'mua)).
