I'm on Ubuntu 13.10 with the gnome3 team packages. Pango is version 1.34.1.
There must have been some improvemnts in pango to handle R2L, I guess.

I don't see a direct way.
I see 3 alternatives:
1. Jeff moves the thing to xemacs/xemacs-gtk. I think that would be
best.
2. We set up a repo on xemacs/xemacs-gtk that Jeff also pushes to when
he pushes to jsparkes/xemacs-gtk.
3. Somebody else pushes.
Jeff - any chance of #2 or #3?

There's also 4 - push the changes into xemacs/xemacs. I'm completely up to
date with the main repo. I don't know what others think of merging
incomplete code.
I'm up for any of them.
