I sometimes run into performance issues with large (LaTeX) buffers,
having font-lock mode and x-symbol running
I found narrowing always messy but I am thinking of give it a try.
Does anybody know whether it could (or should) improve performance?
Commenting without experimenting; the line-number and charcount-to-bytecount
code are both below the level that narrowing occurs at. Narrowing shouldn’t
help them. x-symbol and font-lock should in theory be able to benefit from
it, but experimentation would be definitive.
In your position I’d split my LaTeX buffers into different files, but I
understand that may not be an option for collaborative work.
