Is this really worth fixing? The menus should have gotten face
support years ago---I think they're the only display element left that
doesn't have it.
Either configure with --xim=xlib or adding #undef USE_XFONTSET to
config.h.in should get you a build.

Yes, I know, but I don't understand why --with-xfs option is still
remained in configure when there is no corresponding #undef in
config.h.in. The option has no effect and it is confusing, isn't it?
Anyway, I understand the priority of the problem is very low. I stop
whining about it.

Ben was removing cruft, he took this out without checking configure,
that's all.
Is use of xim acceptable to you as a workaround to get the menus, or
does it get in the way too much or cost too much X traffic or
something?

Ahh, I'm sorry I just realized that all #ifdef USE_XFONTSET were
removed from the source tree except input-method-xlib.c. I was off
the point.

Basically I never use XIM for Emacsen, and once I had a trouble
running a remote XEmacs with XIM support on a Cygwin/XFree86 server
(XEmacs always crashed in an IM related function during startup). But
now I rarely use Cygwin so the workaround is acceptable, I think.
