Re: Making it easier for new installs

If I remember correctly the Windows installer does not come with a full sumo but a few well chosen packages for getting a working system for a developer. I don't know the reason for this. Maybe it is a combination of that a Windows user might expect to get more of a working system from using an installer and that the internal package system might not work that good on Windows? If we get the internal package system to work properly this shouldn't be needed. Still there isn't one right way to do this. Packages can be installed from within XEmacs and outside or both. The truth is that if you want or have to build from source the installation will be a little more complicated than if you have an installer. This thread started out partly(!?) because we have a bug in the documentation where it doesn't clearly say where to install the packages. With that fixed we might not have been discussing this. Fixing the internal packaging system so that it is stable and robust will hopefully improve things further.
