Put `(define-specifier-tag 'mule-fonts)' in init.el. I doubt
whether
any version of X?Emacs *needs* that tag in the x-symbol application,
but this is the easy way out.
It works!!! Well I have to test it extensively of course,
checking whether 21.5 will not screw up the encoding when
writing the file, but at least it works. GREAT

PS two things I find annoying in 21.5 though: it is slower
at start up and the geometry of the frame is somehow
screwed. I will send a mail about it.
