any objections to my redisplay patch?

        I'd like to check it in.  It shouldn't impact anybody but GTK as long as I
don't check in my changes to redisplay-x.c.

Anyone?  I'll check it in late this evening if I don't hear any vetoes.
Then we can decide whether to check in the X11 variant.
