Can you tell me how it fails?  I'm not currently building auctex in my
package builds, but I just ran 'make autoloads' in the auctex
directory and it worked fine.  I can't remember - is the version of
auctex you're talking about checked into CVS?

easy-mmode is in the xemacs-base package, in case that helps.
