I tried building three versions of XEmacs from the old sources
checked out using hg's -d option as follows:

hg update -d 'Mar 4'
hg update -d 'Mar 3'
hg update -d 'Mar 2'

And I found that XEmacs built with the source of 'Mar 4' doesn't
start but the others work.

BTW, is it only to me?  I use Fedora 12 Linux, updated every day.
