read-file-name omit?

Hi Gang:

dired has some useful variables for omitting files from a dired buffer:
dired-omit-regexps, dired-omit-extensions and dired-omit-files.  This is
extremely convenient.  Does read-file-name have something similar?  It
would be nice if the dialog box that pops up could similarly omit files;
possibly the same ones that you don't want to see in a dired buffer.  If
this is not currently available, could it be added (and where would it
need to go)?
