I'll ask him.  When cutting text though, you need a mark and a point.  If I
left click to place point how is the region defined without mousing?

That's an excellent question.  I'd completely forgotten about that.  I use
Sun's Java Desktop System (repackaged Gnome) while my colleague uses
OpenWindows.  I'll retry the test in OW.
