I have no complaint about not including an XEmacs-specific patch in 
FSF Emacs. It clearly doesn't make any sense, but...

I'm wondering if something like the Gentoo patching of the vanilla 
Linux kernel would be useful here.

The package 'gentoo-sources' is the' vanilla-sources' package 
(obtained directly from kernel.org) with a *SMALL* number of Gentoo 
patches applied. (Some are Gentoo-specific, others not.)

If the FSF Emacs version of eshell needs some patches to work nicely 
with XEmacs, would an eshell-patches patchset make sense?

Does this generalize to all packages? to all C source files?
