I've also found that the emacs command, which works correctly, is
invoked from the toolbar where the command is defined as:
prog "emacs" "emacs" /bin/bash -c "/home/evansl/.icewm/env_emacs.sh"
and env_emacs.sh is:
so that explains how emacs worked by xemacs didn't.
