Failure build 2.5.25

I can't reproduce this from CVS HEAD on Mac OSX 10.4.5 (gcc 4.0.1).  I fixed
some errors like this back in November, so if the latest code is being used
then perhaps gcc 4.1 is fussier than 4.0.

I'll see if I can install 4.1 to test.
