Problem with w3 browser in XEmacs 21.5.4

Hi,

I'm using XEmacs 21.5.24 (Cygwin, running on MS Win2K)

I try M-x w3

it says it's contacting some web page (cs.indiana.edu. ... I guess)
then it says it is "Drawing..." and then the error:

    Symbol's value as variable is void: font-running-xemacs

I'm using the sumo tarball extracted into the XEmacs package directory.

My init.el file does not contain anything related to fonts, I'm just using
whatever the default is.

How can I make w3 render those HTML pages (I've also tried a local
.html page, same error).
